2014 Installation and Zine Publication at Free Paarking, St. Louis, MO

This installation includes a Colonial-style “Mansion with a Pool” model perched at 12 feet on a hill of “freshly mowed” model train grass. The only way to view the mansion is through a pair of binoculars, aimed directly at the tiny mansion. Viewers must negotiate the feeling of being the neighborly spy with the curiosity of the view beholden by the binoculars.

The installation was accompanied by a printed zine, “Plastic from Far” that incorporates film stills from The Stepford Wives (1975) and top-down photography of model train houses in their original plastic containers. The work comments on the systemic barriers the wealth gap in America, and the upper-middle class desire to “keep up with the Jones” in gated suburban communities.
